2019 Youth New England Wrestling Championships will be held on March 9 & 10 at the Sullivan Arena, on the campus of St. Anselm’s College in Manchester NH. Please mark the dates in your wrestling calendar.

The format and schedule for the 2019 Youth New Englands will be similar to last year’s tournament. Once again, we will be wrestling on eight full mats… with Intermediate and Novice wrestlers weighing in and competing in separate flights on Saturday. Middle School wrestlers will weigh in on Saturday and compete on Sunday.

We will be starting early on Saturday morning… so that we can finish at a reasonable time on Saturday night. Here is the tournament schedule:

Intermediate weigh-ins will be held from 7-8 AM on Saturday, with wrestling starting by 9 AM on Saturday.
Novice weigh-ins will be held from 12-1 PM on Saturday, with wrestling starting by 2 PM on Saturday.
Middle School weigh-ins will be conducted from 4-5 PM on Saturday, with wrestling scheduled for Sunday morning at 8 AM (Note: clocks ahead on Sunday morning).

Visit YNEW.org for more information on the tournament schedule, as well as general information about this year’s tournament and past tournaments. Besides the location of the tournament and the schedule, there are a few other important things to remember:

Age/Weight Classes – The weight classes are the same as last year, with a total of 44 weight classes in three age divisions. Wrestlers can compete in the Youth New Englands at their state weight class, or another weight class (up or down from their state weight). See the YNEW.org website for a list of all age/weight classes.
Online Age Certification – This year, age certification will once again be done during online registration. The tournament directors will not collect birth certificates. Instead, age will be certified by each registrant. An age-challenge procedure is available for a $25 fee. If challenged, a wrestler will be required to produce proof-of-age. A wrestler who is determined to be ineligible due to age requirements will forfeit any award or placement in the tournament. The tournament directors may not be able to resolve these challenges before or during the tournament; if not, they will be resolved afterwards, with awards/placements adjusted accordingly.
State Qualification – In order to encourage participation and reward placement in state qualifying tournaments, wrestlers that do NOT automatically qualify through placement or participation in their state tournament will be charged a $5 administrative fee. All wrestlers who do not automatically qualify must petition into (and register for) the tournament. If a petitioner is able to complete online registration, that means the petition has been accepted.
Seeding – Because of flexibility with weight classes and wild cards… there will NOT be a published seeding chart. State placement will guide the seeding process, but final seeding will be determined by the tournament directors.
